Sharon Gubinsky, CPA, Senior Manager at Santos, Postal & Company, P.C., Helps Launch Local Affiliate Chapter of American Woman’s Society of Certified Public Accountants

When the folks at the American Woman’s Society of Certified Public Accountants (www.AWSCPA.org) asked Sharon if she was interested in starting a local D.C. affiliate chapter, Sharon jumped at the opportunity. “I am all about strengthening women and our profession,” explains Sharon. “I completely support AWSCPA’s mission to provide a supportive environment and valuable resources for members to achieve their personal and professional goals through various opportunities including leadership, networking and education.”

For the last six months, Sharon and other local women CPAs, along with the national office, have focused on establishing the local organization as a viable business. January 1, 2010, they were up and running. Right now they are focused on increasing membership.

Maura Lange, Senior Accountant at SantosPostal, is serving as membership chair. “We hope to attract a wide range of women CPAs, including those working in public, private, local, regional and international sectors,” says Maura.

Sharon states, “We envision an organization that provides great learning opportunities, as well as a rich networking environment.” The affiliate plans to provide events offering CPE credits at each of their member meetings, philanthropic endeavors to help local women, lots of fun networking opportunities, as well as all of the benefits offered by the national organization.

“My employer, Santos, Postal & Company, P.C., has been extremely supportive of me and this endeavor. I hope this will inspire other organizations to do the same.”
